Presented by LMNT:
Warmer days are upon us! I’m absolutely elated that it’s about time to swap my closets and embrace my sunnier wardrobe once again. With that said: It’s been a while since I’ve chimed in with the gear picks! As Memorial Day weekend is here and the sales are abundant, figured this week’s installment of the Weekly Hurdle was the perfect time to drop some of my current favorites. Looking for more recs? Comment below, and I’ll reply with suggestions!
SHORTS
Wunder Train High Rise 6” Short With Pockets
Limited stock right now, I expect that to change shortly. I own at least four pairs of this short. It’s the perfect length for me, and has three total pockets (one on each side and one in the back). Doesn’t ride up; truly my Goldilocks choice.
Nike Universa Short
Shared these in last week’s newsletter for the first time. Like I said, I’ve been WAITING for Nike to release a solid short that fits my go-to criteria (either a 5- or 6-inch inseam, biker style, pockets) for years, and they’ve ~finally~ delivered. They don’t ride up, have two large side pockets, and don’t roll down in the stomach, either.
LEGGINGS
For Running: lululemon Fast & Free Tight With Updated Pockets
I just got a pair of these, and there’s now a much larger back pocket than the previous version — which comes in super handy for gel storage.
For Yoga: Athleta Salutation Stash Tight
Soft like butter! These are on major sale for MDW, and rival two of my other favorites: Nike’s Zenvy legging and lululemon’s Align with pockets.
For Strength training: LSKD Flux Full Legging
Got my first pair of LSKD leggings last month, and I really dig the feel. They’re a little thicker, high quality, and give you that “this is a good hug” feeling. This tight also has two large side pockets.
SNEAKERS
For Base Mileage: Nike Pegasus 41
Out in early June, I’ve had the opp to test drive the new Nike Pegasus, and the update to a forever classic is perhaps my favorite version of the Peg yet. Perfect for easy miles, the shoe is also a sturdy, good choice if you’re looking to tackle both cardio and strength work. Want to snag the previous model? The Peg 40, another staple in my regular rotation, is on sale right now for MDW.
For Strength Work: Nike Free Metcon
Tried and true, I wear this exact sneaker at least three days a week at the gym for most of my Olympic lifting and HIIT work. If you’re running more than a half-mile at a time, I’d opt for something with a bit more cushion (read: the Peg).
For Interval Workouts: New Balance Fuel Cell Rebelv4, District Vision collab
This is a sexy looking sneaker, hard stop. It also is super light, perfect for interval work whether you’re on the track or on the roads.
For Going Long: Saucony Triumph 22
This shoe is a workhorse in my opinion. Enough cushion under foot to feel comfortable for the long run, and a breathable upper to keep my feet cool regardless of how long I’m out for.
For Going Long: On CloudMonster Hyper
Probably my favorite On shoe to date, the Hyper not only looks rad (I got four compliments the last time I went out in mine) — but also is designed to propel the wearer forward, thanks to energy return you can really feel.
TANKS
Bandit Running Stamina Race Crop
I really love Bandit’s summer styles, but unfortunately most of them are sold through. There are a few left in this classic style, which is why I chose to highlight it here. It has pockets for days, and comes in a slew of colors (the deep cherry is my favorite). Of note: If you’re larger chested, this one may not be as supportive as you crave. I wouldn’t wear it for a half-marathon — although I know plenty of women that do! — but it’s my go-to for gym days with some running.
Tracksmith Bell Lap Top
This is a super supportive crop, no need to wear a bra underneath. Plus, available in a lot of colorways.
Adidas Adizero Running Tank
For those that want a full-length tank top, this one is light, breezy, and moves with you. Plus: On major discount for MDW. I dig the semi spark colorway.
Fabletics Perforated Mesh Boxy Tank
Fabletics! A surprise! An airy, perfect tank. It’s got a slightly boxy silhouette for the days you don’t want anything too close-to-skin and 4-way-stretch that's breathable.
SPORTS BRAS
Low Impact/Errands: Halfdays Gwen Longline Top
Just discovered this brand and really dig the aesthetic. This top is marketed for hiking, but as a city dweller I’d say it’s perfect for vibes and yoga. For those that need extra support, I wouldn’t do much more than that in it (especially if you’re above a C-cup).
Medium/High Impact: Athleta Ultimate Bra
Whether you’re doing box jumps, yoga, or Spin — this one is a go-to for its versatility. Certain colors also on deep discount right now for MDW.
Medium/High Impact: Under Armour Mid
I’ve been wearing this sports bra for as long as I can remember. It’s no frills, compressive, and an absolute steal for under $30.
SANDALS
Go-To Post-Workout: Birkenstock Arizonas
I don’t remember my life without Arizonas in it. I’ve been wearing Birkenstocks since I was a teenager. (Full disclosure: I have a campaign coming out with Birkenstock in the coming month.) But alas, they’re my go-to post-workout, whether I’m walking out of the gym or hobbling around after a 20-miler.
Looking for Some Height: Nike Air Max Koko Sandal
These are a whole vibe. Platforms that are both super comfortable, and also slip-on off for easy maneuvering on the go.
EASY DRESSES
Athleta Presidio Traveler Maxi Dress
This is one of those essential summer dresses that you can throw on to stay cool and do anything. Is it super flattering? Eh, I won’t lie to you, not really. But I’ve worn it four times since I got it two weeks ago, and can guarantee it’ll be one of my most-worn items for the next three months.
Abercrombie YPB Sculpt Dress
I met a hurdler (Hi Jamie! Great to meet you!) the other day wearing this in Nike, and immediately went online and bought it on the spot. Such an easy, effortless wear for a hot day of errands and running around town — with shorts underneath to stash stuff (and hop a bike at any moment).
HATS
Hurdler Dad Hat
Self promotion moment! Hurdler dad hats are BACK IN STOCK for a limited time, and moving fast! Snag them while you can.
Bandit Running OG Mesh Hat
When I’m looking for something that’s sweat wicking, this hat not only gets the job done but also fits my head like a glove, thanks to an adjustable bungie closure. I have it in three different colors.
So tell me: What else are you hunting for?
Keep hurdling,
