5 Questions To Reflect On The Past 365
Look at where you've been, and then focus on where you're going.

Presented by ASICS and Hyperice:
This week on the show, I loved the opportunity to catch up with five women that I admire: Courtney Dauwalter, Les Alfred, Chase Ealey, Dr. Robin Berzin, and Emma Bates. In these conversations, I asked them all the same five questions. For today’s newsletter, I’m answering these myself — although Chase already made me answer one when she turned the tables on me late in Wednesday’s episode.
If you had to choose a theme of the year, what was it?
Progress is progress. There were a lot of things I wanted to do in 2023, and a lot of them I did. However, I didn’t always accomplish things in the timeline I had hoped. So, I really adopted the motto last year that all progress is progress. It helped me celebrate the small wins as they arose and also home in on my perspective. There’s always something to be proud of. Sometimes, you just have to get out of your own way to see the sun is shining right outside your own window.
What’s your proudest moment of the year?
A shared moment: Being able to bring a girlfriend along with me for the ride in Chamonix. I traveled to France early last fall to host a workshop on behalf of HOKA, and at the eleventh hour they asked me if I had a recommendation for an excellent photographer that would be willing to do work on-site. It was a no-brainer to recommend Lauren, who they ultimately hired for the opportunity. (Lauren and her partner Shawn also recently handled the photography for Hurdle’s rebrand! Peep their content over on Instagram @flowstate_creative.)
Not only was it great to share that experience together, but it was also an excellent reminder of how awesome it is to lift up your friends. A rising tide lifts all boats, and I’m elated whenever I get the opportunity to give someone a lift on my journey.
What was the most difficult moment of the year?
Earlier this year, I was given the wrong dose of a medication that I take regularly. It wasn’t until about three weeks into taking my new dose that I started to experience side effects, realize the error, and went back to the pharmacy. It was a really, really frustrating experience, and one I don’t wish on anyone. For the record: The pharmacist was mortified and extremely apologetic, my general physician called me right away to discuss next steps, and now almost six months later — the side effects have subsided. But! It was really, really difficult — and at the time not something I wanted to share. I felt entirely powerless.
If you had to choose your own person of the year (a la TIME’S Taylor Swift) who would it be?
Allie Krieger needs a round of applause. Ali Krieger Fan Club T-shirts, for all.
What is something you want to do more of in 2024?
Read and write. I do a lot of both already, but one of the best pieces of advice I’ve received about writing your own book is that you need to write and read as much as possible. So, take that for what you will.
PROMPT: Any of the above questions in the comments section below. Let’s get a dialogue going!
Cheers to 2024 and beyond — keep hurdling,
