Presented by LMNT:
I cried standing alongside the finish line of Nike Cross Nationals in Portland, Oregon, last week. For those unfamiliar with the event, it’s a high school cross country meet that brings together individual and club qualifiers from eight regional championships to compete for thw national championship. One by one, teenagers completed the 5K effort after putting it all out there. One by one, collapsing just feet from mine. One by one, peeling themselves off of the ground and making their way slowly to teammates, helping them find their footing and then falling into each others arms after a hard fought race. The camaraderie was beautiful, as was seeing the care and concern between each and every participant.
Shortly before the race, I sat down with Chris Bennett, Nike Running’s Global Head Coach, and we talked about the beauty that is teamwork (the episode will be live Monday). The opportunity we all have well past our high school years to lift one another up in good times and bad. To lean on one another for support, and rally together, too.
And then I had a thought — what if each and every day you chose to show up for yourself like you would a teammate? A hug before hard efforts. A pep talk, too. A sense of understanding when something goes off the rails. Sure, it’s easy to allow negative thoughts to seep in. But what if you made the conscious choice to be your biggest cheerleader, each and every day?
It’s a beautiful thought, and an even more beautiful opportunity.
Keep hurdling,

Gear I’m Loving: Vital Performance Protein Powder
From Chelsey: “I had to switch up my protein supplement when I became pregnant, and I've really been liking the chocolate vital performance protein powder. I am a bit picky when it comes to protein powder taste, and this one is the perfect amount of sweet but not overpowering. Blend it with some milk of your choice, nut butter, spinach (always getting the extra veggie), banana, and a few ice cubes for a sweet yet nutrient-packed breakfast or snack on the go!”
Quote I’m Loving: “Sometimes things become possible if we want them bad enough.”
― T.S. Eliot
