Presented by LMNT:
Wednesday was the longest day of my life (literally). I woke up at 5:45 a.m. in Kyoto, Japan. I left Japan on a flight at 7:30 p.m., and then I traveled back in time — arriving in Atlanta for my connection at 5:30 p.m. (Wednesday night). By the time I landed at LaGuardia, got home, and crawled into my bed — I had spent something like 36+ hours living the same day (don’t quote me, the time change is a little complicated to add up).
It had me thinking about the concept of time, and how it really is our most valuable asset. Fact: We can’t get time back. We do, however, have the opportunity to make the most of ours. So what does that look like? Focusing on the things you can control, for starters, and letting go of the things you cannot. Savoring the moments and being present in them, too. Spending your days with people that fill up your cup, being a kind, good person, and making purposeful decisions.
In a practical sense, here are five strategies I use to maximize my time:
1. Master the Art of ‘No’
In a world that never stops buzzing, saying 'yes' to every request can quickly drain your time and energy. Saying ‘no’ these days brings me the utmost joy, because I know that every ‘no’ is really me saying ‘yes’ to myself. Quality over quantity, always.
2. Time Blocking: A Game-Changer for Your Day
Dive into the magic of time blocking. Grab your calendar and designate specific chunks for focused work, creative endeavors, and, of course, those well-deserved breaks. It’s like creating a personalized roadmap for success.
3. Banish Distractions, Boost Productivity
Let's face it — our attention is a hot commodity. Minimize distractions by silencing unnecessary notifications, decluttering your workspace, and creating a zen zone for maximum focus. That to-do list will thank you.
4. The 5-Minute Rule: Tackle Small Tasks, Big Wins
Channel your inner efficiency guru something I lean into every now and again, the 5-minute rule. If a task takes less than five minutes, tackle it immediately. It’s a swift and savvy way to conquer the small stuff, leaving you with more time to focus in on things that require more of your focus and bandwith.
5. Reflect, Reframe, Refocus
Take a breather and reflect on your journey. It’s just as important to regularly assess your goals and adjust your course as needed as it is to celebrate the wins. It's not just about managing time; it's about crafting a life that aligns with your passions and purpose. Own your narrative, and watch time become your ally.
So tell me: How will you be better about owning your time this coming week?
Keep hurdling,
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK
I’m Listening To: “How to Discover Your Own Taste” from The Ezra Klein Show
A good friend sent me this earlier in the week, and I listened meandering around the streets of Tokyo. Brought about a lot of thoughts/realizations about my own personal sense of taste, and offered up powerful takeaways on how to strengthen your sense of taste to live a richer life.
I’m Watching: Love Is Blind finale
Did I cry on the plane Wednesday night? Absolutely.
Gear I’m Loving: Hyperice Venom Go
This little buddy has been my GO-TO (understatement) while traveling. A heat and vibration wearable that loosens and relaxes muscles on the go, I used it on sore post-marathon legs, a tight lower back, and for period cramps over the past seven days. This is a GREAT thing to treat yourself with.
