Presented by LMNT:
What a week.
On Wednesday night I got to sit down with Rhasidat Adeleke, the fastest woman from Ireland who came in fourth in the 400 meters at the Paris Games (episode will be out this coming Monday). There were so many takeaways from the conversation, set to a background of positive vibes at Nike’s women’s community night in Austin — an annual gathering that happens during The Running Event (TRE). Among them, the 22-year-old recommended having a short term memory with failure (rather than dwelling), surround yourself with people who elevate you, and get comfortable with the uncomfortable. She also said:
Be patient, because what is for you won’t pass you by.
That one’s really resonating with me today. There’s so much pain that comes with going after a big goal and missing the mark; OR, frustration that occurs with wanting things to be different than how they actually are. As I begin to prep for another year, I’m sitting down and getting intentional about my hopes and goals for 2025. There are plenty of things I want, sure, but I also recognize that they’re not going to be overnight accomplishments — and certainly won’t all get checked off in 2025.
Effectively, patience is like strength training.
The more that you exercise it, the easier it becomes. The stronger you become. If you begin to look at the things that don’t happen, paving the way for something better? Well, then patience begins to feel a tad bit easier. Trusting the timing of your life isn’t necessarily effortless, but letting go of the uncontrollable will only serve you in the long haul.
PROMPT: What does patience look like for you right now?
Keep hurdling,
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK
Gear I’m Loving: Nike Vomero 18
Set to release in February 2025, the new iteration of one of my top three sneakers of all time (others: New Balance 1080, ASICS Novablast) is an instant classic that I adored during my morning 5-miler on Thursday. A max cushion pick, the Vomero 18 combines their ZoomX and ReactX foams for a super cozy run. I’ll be doing a giveaway with this shoe in the new year, so stay tuned!
I’m Listening To: Issa Rae on Embracing Your Unique Beauty and Creating Your Own Path on Naked Beauty
When Issa talks about not feeling beautiful as a child, my heart hurt. Such a good episode touching on themes of inner beauty, outer beauty, self-talk, and boundary setting.
Prompt I’m Loving: What’s one thing you want to stop, start, and keep doing?
Quote I’m Loving: “You can’t reach for anything new if you’re holding onto the past.” — unknown
NEW ON THE SHOW 🎧
If you want to feel hyped to go after your next big goal, this episode is for you. Sat down with Olympians and Brooks athletes Chari Hawkins and Josh Kerr in New York recently for a live show, and debriefed a crazy summer and the work went into showing up in Paris. Chari — Olympic heptathlete — opens up about mental health after a disappointing Games. And Josh? The silver medalist and current mile record holder on U.S. soil gives his perspective on hard work and the importance of trusting the process. These are two unbelievable athletes with inspiring advice and unique perspectives on training for success and overcoming the hurdles that come with striving for greatness.
