Presented by LMNT:
I went to one of my favorite hot yoga studios for the first time in over a year yesterday. It was damn near magical. I was one of six or seven people in the class, inside of a brightly lit, warm studio where we all had plenty of space (as in, way more than six feet). I didn’t wear my Apple watch (read: zero notifications). I didn’t for once think about my emails. Or my to-do list. Notably, I didn’t think for a second about COVID.
I just wouldn’t let myself.
Not now, this is my time.
I let go of every other thing in my life except for how damn blissful it felt to drip and be with myself and my thoughts for 60 full minutes. I watched beads fall onto the mat towel below me, each one followed by sweet satisfaction. A sweat-drenched, blissed out happiness that I distinctly remember trying to recreate at least twice in my last apartment by turning on the oven and cooking something while doing yoga nearby in May of 2020 (it didn’t work, just FYI).
It was a matrix break, for sure. Something that pre-pandemic Emily did all of the time, with a whole lot less gratitude than she felt today.
More of this.
More simple joys.
Go on, go create your own.
Keep hurdling,
P.S. I’m curious: What’s a simple joy you’re looking forward to this weekend?
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK
What I’m Reading: ”Peter Moore: The Man Behind Air Jordan and Adidas America”
My friend Brendan Dunne works over at Complex, and wrote this really great tribute/profile about the late Peter Moore. Whether or not you consider yourself a “sneakerhead,” it’s a super well-written piece documenting the life of a man who had a profound impact on the sneaker industry as we know it today.
Gear I’m Loving: WHOOP Intimates
IDK about anyone else, but it’s comical how many of my friends call me out for wearing my WHOOP strap when I’m dressed up. Good news: WHOOP recently released a line of intimates that has a specific slot to slide in your tracker. Use code INTIMATES15 at checkout to receive 15% off any intimates items purchased before tomorrow, May 15.
What I’m Listening To: SmartLess
I’ve been on a kick of catch up on old Smartless episodes, a podcast hosted by Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett The concept is that for each episode, one of the three hosts brings on a special guest that is a complete surprise to the other two hosts. If you’ve never listened, the Sandra Bullock and Halle Berry episodes are a great place to start.
Quote I’m Loving: Every single second is a chance to start over,” — My Lyons Den Power Yoga teacher, closing out class on Thursday

🎧 NEW PODCAST EPISODE: 206. Jacky Hunt-Broersma, Ultra Runner & Amputee Who Conquered 104 Marathons In 104 Days
Jacky Hunt-Broersma picked up running after her left leg was amputated below the knee after being diagnosed with cancer (Ewing sarcoma) in 2001. On April 30th, she finished her 104th marathon in 104 days, raising more than $192,000 in funds for Amputee Blade Runners along the way.
For this week’s episode, we're talking about the why: Why she went after this goal and why this organization means so much to her. Plus: How she had to adjust her original target of 100 marathons on day 86 when she learned that UK runner Kate Jayden recently finished 101 marathons. We also talk about how to tune out negative thoughts, what her recovery practice looks like, what she hopes others will take from her journey, and her next big goal of the Moab 240.
🎧 NEW PODCAST EPISODE: #HURDLEMOMENT: An Expert On The Glymphatic System: What Is It & What Does It Do?
The glymphatic system is essential to your everyday function, but most people don't know what it is. Enter Louisa Nicola, a neuroscientist, high performance coach, and founder of the Neuro Athletics — an expert on all things brain. She works with some of the top athletes in the NFL and NBA, as well as some of the most high-performing women and men on Wall Street, and she's here to give us the 4-1-1. We're answering how the glymphatic system works, how we can activate it, and what we can do on the days where it ~seems~ as though things are off.

Another (weekly) Hurdle conquered. Catch you guys next week.
Hi Emily! I just relocated to lower Manhattan from Brooklyn (more space to call my own believe it or not!) I am looking forward to strolling the neighborhood and picking up fresh flowers at the Green Market Saturday. I enjoy just being active throughout my week even if it’s outside of the gym. I’ll be walking instead of taking the subway since we have great weather coming up this weekend.
