It Sounds Simple, But It May Not Feel That Way
How do you get what you want? Well, it starts with starting.

Presented by LMNT:
It sounds simple.
In order to be a writer, you have to write.
In order to be a runner, you have to run.
In order to be a teacher, you have to teach (whether or not you realize you’re doing it).
In order to be a dancer, you need to dance.
Now, no one says that you have to do these things well.
However, the more regularly you do them, the more likely it is that your skills will improve.
Think of it like this: The more regularly you do a biceps curl, the stronger you’ll become. With time, you’ll be able to add on weight. Maybe you started with 10-pound dumbbells, and then within a month or so, you’re up to 15-pound ones.
THAT, my friends, is because of the repetition.
That’s because you’re improving at the movement since it’s a part of your routine.
I think about this a lot in the context of my goals and what I’m after. For instance: If one day I aspire to make six figures public speaking and giving keynotes, then it starts by speaking publicly, period. I can’t expect to roll out of bed one morning and have a lucrative speaking career. I have to put in the reps. Start small. Capture content. Make something with that content. And then, well, we’ll see what happens next.
You’ve probably been in this position before: You’ve thought I want what this person has. I certainly have. But you have to ask yourself: Are you willing to put in the foundational work to make this thing happen?
You start by starting.
Food for thought, this week.
Keep hurdling,
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK
I’m Reading: Don’t Call It A Comeback by Keira D’Amato
Just got my advanced copy, and I am geeked to dive in. I’ll be sitting down with Keira in a few weeks to chat again for the show, so feel free to comment below with any questions you have for the former American record holder in the marathon (and half-marathon, too).
Gear I’m Loving: lululemon Shake It Out High-Rise Running Short
I saw these on a mannequin and immediately went into the store to buy them. They feel like a longer inseam on-body than advertised. I put on Trislide (a little pricey, but the same bottle has lasted me over a year) before running in them, and successfully went on an almost 6-mile run without chafing. Was I nervous? Yes. But oh my gosh it felt so freeing! Lame, maybe, but I’m proud of me for going out there with the loose shorter short. Of note: These have a hidden card pocket and a drawcord, but no big pocket to stash something like a cell phone. I’m obsessed with the maize yellow colorway.
I’m Watching: Taurasi
Diana Taurasi, six-time Olympic gold medalist and one of the most accomplished WNBA players of all time, released her three-part docuseries on Prime Video this week.
“The one thing I’ve learned from great players is that you are what you do every single day.”
- Diana Taurasi
Other thoughts and links: How could you not love Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe for this stunt? This has nothing to do with wellness or sport, but Darren Graham and his son Ducky are my new favorite creators. The New York City Marathon apparel collection is out, and she cute. Last weekend, Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr won her eighth CrossFit Games, just over two years after having her daughter Willow (learn more about her in our episode here). This week, AG1 announced three new flavors—citrus, tropical, and berry. I’ve been a big fan of the citrus (prominent notes of lemon and orange) for the past month, and you can get a free welcome kit (valued at $76) if you purchase here. My friends at Receipts are giving away an unbelievable trip to run the race of your dreams. For more information and your chance to enter, click here. Jen Pawol will become the first female umpire in MLB at this weekend’s Miami Marlins vs. Atlanta Braves game (this comes 28 years after the gender barrier was broken in the NBA). Stoked on all of the performances from last weekend’s USATF Outdoor and Para National Championships, including big wins from Emily Infeld, Masai Russell, and Nikki Hiltz. Hiltz recently opened up about about their top surgery, both on social media and a special episode of Ali On The Run. As Laura Green put it in their comments section, “How lucky are we to be alive at the same time as Nikki Hiltz?”

MY SOMETHING NEW
One of my goals for 2025 is to do something new every single week. I wrote about this earlier this year. Love these recaps? Let me know in the comments ⬇️
Friday, August 1: Dinner on stage at The Public Theater
What an unbelievable opportunity. Got invited to a special evening, courtesy of Chase Sapphire Reserve, to celebrate Hamilton’s 10-year anniversary at the theater where it all began. The sit-down meal, curated by the team at one of my favorite spots—Colonia Verde, included a live performance and conversation with Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., and Renee Elise Goldsberry. In my 14 years of living in New York, this was also the first time I’d ever been inside The Public (hides face). Although this was a one-time opportunity, you can get access to more awesome experiences like this by being a Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholder. For more info on that, click here.
