Presented by Future:
I ran my first New York City Marathon in 2014, and I’ve run five to date. This Sunday, I’ll be alongside the course cheering for the 51st running of the race. To say that this is a special time in New York would be an understatement. People of all backgrounds come in from all over the world to unite with locals from every borough to celebrate. Cheer as 50,000 plus pound pavement, striding toward their big potential. There’s confetti. There are smiles. There’s grit. There’s determination.
It’s my absolute favorite day of the year here. Yet this week, as emails have been flying that have nothing to do with Sunday, I’m reminded of the importance of getting outside of my own bubble. Having patience with everyone else who has their own agenda as I execute mine, which consists of hosting multiple events, catching up with listeners from near and far IRL, and planning a cheering strategy for Sunday. I’m reminded of the importance of being respectful of others’ priorities while also navigating my own, and that someone else’s sense of urgency doesn’t mean I have to set mine to the side.
It doesn’t mean it’s not important,
but it can wait.
OOO until Monday —
keep hurdling,
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK
I’m Listening To: “Stick Season” by Noah Kahan
I just discovered Noah after seeing friends share stories from a concert last week, and I’ve had this album on repeat all week. It gives me Mumford vibes, and I dig it
I’m Speaking On: Bandit’s “Fast & Loose” Podcast
Popped into the Bandit office to record with Sashah and Tim for their podcast, where I offered up some of my veteran marathon tips, biggest errors of marathons past, and what
Gear I Love: Lingdu Matching Workout Set In Red
Admittedly, I was totally influenced to buy via Instagram off of Amazon, and I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the set is. I’ve been doing a lot more indoor training (and have more on deck as we head into winter), so thought this was a fun way to brighten up my mornings. Also, I’d say if you’re in between two sizes, size down.
Event I’m Excited For: Chat At the New Athleta SoHo Flagship on November 15
Hosting a conversation in honor of this store opening, and you’re all invited! If you’re local to the area and can make it for 9 a.m., I hope to see you there!
Quote I Love: “The way out of negativity is, therefore, the willingness to acknowledge and let go of negative feelings and, at the same time, the willingness to let go of resisting their positive opposite.” — Letting Go by Dr. David Hawkins via Erin Falter’s newsletter WORK WORK
