I’ve been juggling a lot of things recently. As of yesterday, I finally (!) finished my Precision Nutrition level one certification, and on the work front, I’m trying to piece together some things so that I can delegate work to Hurdle’s newest interns (more on them coming, soon).
Amidst the chaos, I’ve been having a lot of conversations about the importance of owning your worth. In a literal sense, let’s start with a business example: Say you’re working on a contract negotiation. Perhaps, you’ve landed a new job! Mazel tov! You think you should ask for X, but you know you’re worth Y (yes, Y is more). You take a leap of faith and ask for Y, and ~shocker~ you get it! As a result, the next time around when you’re negotiating a contract, you ~start~ with asking for Y. No hesitation.
Now, a personal life example: You’re used to a partner treating you some kind of way that makes you think that the things that you want in a relationship are ~too much~. Then, you meet a new partner who is willing to give you these things, and suddenly you’re reminded that it’s not that you were asking for too much, it’s that you were asking the wrong person. The previous partner made you question your value and debate lowering your standards.
Hey. I get it. It’s scary to put yourself out there. But I encourage you to stop waiting around for someone or some thing to give you permission to own your value. You have to be your own advocate. Appreciate that you are worthy of good things! When you do, you may be pleasantly surprised the next time you’re going after what you want — no hesitation, whatsoever.
PROMPT: When was the last time you sold yourself short? Why do you think you do that? What can you change to better handle a similar situation the next time?

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK
LISTEN: Real Pod
I stumbled on this for the first time when I was looking for podcasts that model Emily DiDonato had been on before (spoiler alert: She’s coming to the show, soon). I’ve been dipping my toe into other episodes ever since. I really appreciate the perspective that host Victoria Garrick, a former Division I volleyball player, brings to the conversation. Start off with her chat with Sports Illustrated model, Tanaye White. You won’t be disappointed.
WATCH: Operation Varsity Blues: The College Admissions Scandal on Netflix
You know, I’m not usually one for documentaries that involve reenactments. But, I found this one really interesting. It blows my mind that so many of these well-off people just felt as though they could make their own rules. Made by Chris Smith, the director from Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened, the film stages recreations of what happened using real call transcripts, intercut with interviews featuring experts and individuals that were actually involved in the scandal.
CHECK OUT: IRL Fitness Is Back In New York!
It felt like this day would come. I haven’t personally hopped back into a group fitness studio yet. However, I’m excited for so many past Hurdle guests who are getting ready to sweat in-person with their clients again (in a safe, 33-percent-capacity, way). To celebrate, check out some of these past episodes featuring New York City-based trainers and founders:
Sarah Larson Levey, Founder Y7
Ash Wilking, Rumble Trainer
Tunde Oyeneyin, Peloton Instructor
Megan Roup, Founder of the Sculpt Society
Robin Arzon, VP Fitness Programming at Peloton
Taylor Rae Almonte, Rumble Trainer
Joe Holder, Founder of the Ochosystem
Kirsty Godso, Nike Master Trainer
RUNNING SHORT PICKS: Wolaco 7’’ Biker, Tracksmith Allston Shorts, Athleta Ultimate Stash Pocket Short, Lululemon Wunder Train High Rise
I’ve been getting a lot of messages asking about my go-to picks now that the temperatures are heating up outside. These four are in my regular rotation. Keep in mind, this is coming from a girl who has often battled the dreaded chafe courtesy of thighs that touch. For me, if a short is a split-style or has less than a 5-inch inseam, I can’t mess with it. One note: I wear the Wunder Train when I’m at the track and don’t need to have my phone in tow.
🎧 NEW PODCAST EPISODE: Emily Skye, Fitness Trainer & Expert @EmilySkyeFit
Emily Skye wants women everywhere to know that they are not alone in their struggles. For episode 152, I’m catching up with the fitness trainer who reaches 14 million via her app (and more than 2.5 million on Instagram) for the show. The Australian-born mom-of-two talks to me about her upbringing and the #hurdlemoments that came in her teenage years resulting in anxiety and depression. She details a few abusive relationships that made her question her value, and gets honest about trying to end her life around age 18. She talks about how that experience made her determined to help those with similar struggles, eventually inspiring her journey into the fitness industry and the creation of her online programming.
🎧 NEW PODCAST EPISODE: #HURDLEMOMENT: An Expert Answers Your Frequently Asked Questions About Fitness & Pregnancy
Will I ever be able to run/walk/squat again without peeing myself? How soon is too soon to exercise post-baby? What's the deal with pelvic floor and diastasis recti? Over the years, I've received handfuls of questions from the Hurdle community and today I'm calling on my friend Bree Koegel, FitOn trainer and pre- and post-natal certified trainer to give us some answers. Whether or not you're a mom, this episode is loaded with helpful insight to help us all get stronger and gain a better understanding of what the female body goes through when there's a baby on board.
