Presented by AG1 by Athletic Greens:
On Wednesday of this week I sat down with a girlfriend to talk about the things we want for the new year. For 2022, my word is: “Bigger.” I want to think bigger. Do bigger. Act bigger. Dream bigger. I want more people to know my name for all the right reasons. I want to do more good in and for my community (and beyond). I want to attract bigger.
… On the notebook in front of me, below the heading “vision and goals,” I wrote down a slew of “bigger” thoughts, ranging from dream collaborations and hosting opportunities to podcast guest gets, financial benchmarks, and personal desires. I’m not going to share them here now, but I’d love to encourage you to do the same. You don’t have to write down a bunch of SMART goals or even make resolutions. Instead, just write down some cool things you’d like to happen or accomplish in your life.
What do you really want?
You can do it alone or with a friend. If an action plan follows? Well, that’s entirely up to you.
Happy new year, everyone. And! Happy birthday, Hurdle. Four. Years. Old. My life is dramatically better because I started this thing that lead me to all of you.
Keep hurdling,
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK
I’m Watching: Insecure
Took me way too long to get into this show, but after reading about the finale earlier this week — I’m already on season 4.
I’m Listening To: Will
OK, OK. I told y’all that I was reading this a few weeks back. I was! But then, the fourth person who told me that I just had to listen to it gifted me the audio book. I’m about 2 hours in with 12 more to go, and they’re all right — listening is an entirely different experience.
I’m Reading: Voicing Change by Rich Roll
Bought this after chatting with Rich for a GQ interview a couple months back. The book’s a highlight reel of insights from some of his podcast guests, and currently sits on my coffee table. Inspiring? Definitely. I’d love to make something like this of my own one day.
What I’m Wearing: Nike Free Metcon 4
I’ve been working out with a trainer via the Future app for about a month now, which means I’m spending a lot more time lifting weights and doing things in the gym that ~aren’t~ running. It’s a fun pivot for me, one that’s demanded me to mix up my footwear. I’ve been loving these Nike Metcons, which have the stability I need for lateral movements with the Goldilocks amount of cushioning, too. Remember: It’s important to have different sneakers for different efforts, whether that be sprinting versus running long or weight lifting versus walking.
Quote I’m Loving: “Love is or it ain’t. Thin love ain’t love at all.” — Tony Morrison, from Beloved
Thank you to my sponsor, AG1 from Athletic Greens, for supporting this week’s newsletter!
For years, I often wandered the aisles of the drug store buying whatever gummy vitamins looked the prettiest (and were on sale). Then, I found Athletic Greens, and everything changed. It sounds dramatic, sure. But! Until I started incorporating this all-in-one daily supplement into my routine, I didn’t realize what I was missing out on.
Trust me: If you’re looking for the most simple way to start a nutritional daily habit in 2022, this is it. No pills. No multiple products. Just one absorbable scoop that delivers so much good-for-you value, with 75 bioavailable vitamins, minerals, and whole food-sourced ingredients, including a multivitamin, multimineral, probiotic, and greens superfood blend. Plus, the antioxidant equivalent of 12 servings of fruits and vegetables!
To sweeten the deal, AG1 from Athletic Greens is giving away a FREE year supply of vitamin D and five free travel packs with your first order. (Free stuff. Let’s go!) Simply head on over to AthleticGreens.com/Hurdle to get yours, no code necessary.

Kirsten Ferguson has conquered a whole lotta hurdles in the last decade. From struggling to have children and navigating multiple miscarriages to dealing with divorce, she's learned time and time again the power of faith and resilience. For episode 189, she talks to me about how she got into fitness — eventually teaching Spin from home during the pandemic — and the beautiful way that Peloton came into her life when she needed it most. I cannot say thank you enough to her for her openness, and as she says in our chat, acknowledging that speaking out — specifically about miscarriage — will help make other women feel less alone on their journey.
