Patience: It's The Name of The Game
Will the thing you're stressing about ~really~ matter in 5 or 10 years?

Presented by LMNT:
I spent this week in Los Angeles, and it was pretty hectic. Exhilarating, but hectic. When life feels like it’s moving at 1,000 mph, I typically use running as my stress relief. The issue? Well, last week, just 21 days (or so) before I’m set to toe the starting line in London, some tendonitis started to flair up in my left knee. So, the name of the game for me (and my knee) has been rest, rest, rest.
Upon sharing these sentiments over on IG, messages started pouring in from Hurdlers all over, also experiencing some sort of injury or wonkiness. Reading something like “it hurts, but I’m scared to stop training!” or “I don’t want to lose all of my fitness!”
Patience.
Patience.
Patience.
It’s hard. I know. Yes, deviating from a plan can be scary. But, even the best-laid plans require changes every now and again. Running through discomfort is one thing. But pain? That’s where I draw the line. That’s where I remind myself to come back to calm and ask: “Will whatever you’re freaking out about matter in five or 10 years from now?”
In five years, it won’t matter whether or not I ran this one race — or insert other trivial, non-running related issue. What could matter is if I push my body (or my heart or mental bandwidth) too hard and end up bench-bound, on the injured list, or withdrawing from other things in life that bring me joy as a byproduct, doing long-term damage.
I’ve been there. Here. And by being there, persevering through the #hurdlemoments, I’ve learned to find perspective. It can be challenging to do that when you’re drenched in emotion (or sweat), in the thick of chasing your goals. Know that however it is that you feel — marathon on the line or not — you’re certainly not alone.
Patience. It’s the name of the game.
Keep hurdling,
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK
I’m Listening To: Pretty Big Deal with Ashley Graham
Prepping for my interview with Ashley last week, I listened to about a dozen episodes of her podcast, Pretty Big Deal. I especially loved her chat with Demi Lovato about body acceptance versus body positivity.
I’m Reading: How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie
A friend recommended this to me earlier this week. I just snatched it up on Audible, excited to dive in.
Gear I’m Loving: Asics Novablast 3
This is my new go-to base mileage shoe, and I love the angular details. Super cozy with good cushioning and a breathable, sock-like upper. Recommended usage: Anything from a mile to a marathon.
Quote I’m Loving: “Go as far as you can see; when you get there, you’ll be able to see further.” — Thomas Carlyle
