Hurdlers!
I’m amped (understatement) to shout from the rooftops that season 3 of Hurdle is live! Kicking things off with Chris Bennett, Nike Running’s global head coach and all-around wonderful human. I hunted down this interview for a while, not just because of my admiration for Coach, but also because he’s someone so many of you asked to hear from time and time again.
In the episode, we chat about everything from the multiple hurdles he faced in his running career to how he started working with the Swoosh and his best advice for running in the heat. He also gets honest about what it was like for him to fall short on some of his big running goals (4:00 mile, like WHAT?), and he offers up a really, really clever running anecdote which will make you rethink the way you look at strawberries (odd, I know).
TBH: Hurdle has surely come a long way since launch back in December 2017. Over 200 total episodes, 120+ guests, the launch of a weekly newsletter and Hurdle sessions, and a lot of life lessons later, I want to take the time to extend my deepest gratitude for every single person who gives the show (and me!) a second of their time.
… Which is why, I’m hosting a giveaway in celebration!
Up for grabs:
A $200 Lululemon gift card
A month’s supply of Athletic Greens
A month’s supply of Four Sigmatic coffee
A WHOOP (with a 6-month membership)
One lucky winner will be chosen on Thursday, July 16, at 10 a.m. ET. I will announce this winner over on Instagram, via both @emilyabbate and @hurdlepodcast, so make sure you’re following both accounts to be kept in the loop! Note: Please, only enter once.
To enter, you must do the following:
In Bennett’s episode, he talks about the importance of taking care of yourself so that you can better show up as a leader. Also: That leaders can be absolutely anyone, regardless of the size of their social following. If you’re reading this in your email, click “Like & Comment” below (or if you’re on desktop or mobile directly on Substack, simply scroll down) — and comment with your answer to the question:
“What is one way you give back to yourself so that you can better show up for people and causes you care about?”
Make sure you’re subscribed to the Weekly Hurdle newsletter. (Note: Although there are paid options for Hurdlers to offer financial support, this is not necessary! Please, feel free to choose the ‘free’ subscription.)
And (last thing!), although not required, I’d really, really, appreciate it if you’d go rate and review Hurdle in the iTunes store and share this post (there’s a button up on the top of this page!) with ONE friend or family member.
Go on. Get to commenting and subscribing! (Also, perhaps rating and reviewing!)
Keep hurdling,

Whoof-the biggest way I care for myself and make sure I can show up for others is sleep. I am a total crab if I don’t get enough sleep and I loose both energy and patience. Everything else-my routines, movement, meditation, they all play into it too but really I need 8 hours of solid sleep to even motivate myself to show up in those other ways. It’s a game changer.
The biggest way I give back to myself is through sleep. Making sure I get enough sleep helps me show up for myself and for others around me. I believe sleeping is so very much productive and the foundation to step upon to build your day.
