What Are Your Non-Negotiables?
Something to ask yourself before you get to the point of crisis mode.

Presented by InsideTracker:
I’m heading to Los Angeles for the weekend (and hosting a Hurdler Huddle Saturday, if you can snag one of the remaining free tickets). Earlier today I was on my way to JFK via the Long Island Railroad when I started to piece together my travel schedule for April. It’s a lot. I couldn’t help but think: There were so many times during the last couple years in the prime of the pandemic when you wished to be back in this place.
On and off planes.
Coming and going.
Joining together in community.
Hosting events.
I’d be lying if I didn’t say it’s a tad overwhelming. With five different business trips in next month, I’m asking myself from seat 33B — what do you need? What is it that I require — the non-negotiables — to navigate the chaos of sorts in a way that makes me feel good? Some starters: Thinking ahead about a sweat strategy. Will I be running outside? Will I have a gym? Do I want to take classes? Also: Making sure I’ve got my travel packs of AG1, Beam Dream, and LMNT in tow. Journaling regularly. Being super protective and intentional over the little time I will have back at home in Brooklyn. Making sleep a TOP priority.
… and then I got to thinking: This practice, the boundaries, they aren’t solely important for just when my schedule is hectic. The non-negotiables, they’re critical for me to feel my best all of the time. Commitment: I’m going to be better about asking “what do you need?” more often. Maybe, today, you ask yourself the same.
Keep hurdling,
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK
What I’m Watching: Bridgerton
I may or may not have watched the entire season in about two days.
Gear I’m Loving: Lululemon Train to Be Tank
Chelsey says: “I got this tank top while in New York, and I love both the fabric and cut of the tank. It's a cropped length without feeling like a bra (even on someone taller like myself) and the fabric is equally soft as it is sweat wicking for tough workouts. I ventured away from my typical neutral color preference and chose the blazer blue, which I am totally digging for a pop of bold color!”
What I’m Listening To: On Purpose With Jay Shetty — Big Sean ON: Why Self-Care Isn’t Selfish
Jay Shetty sits down with Big Sean to talk about personal growth and dealing with relationships. The takeaway: In order to be of service to others, we all need to take care of our needs first. This is why self-care is something you owe to yourself, it is something you deserve in any way, shape, and form. And when you master self-care, you become better at handling your emotions, you get more invested in your relationships, and you become more aware of the things that truly make you fulfilled and happy.
Quote I’m Loving: “Optimism in Possibility. If you don't believe it will happen, it probably won't.” — Dr. Julie Gurner on Twitter

When you do what you love — like running, racing, and enjoying the great outdoors — you want to do it for life. InsideTracker can help.
InsideTracker was founded in 2009 by leading scientists in aging, genetics, and biometrics. Using their patented algorithm, InsideTracker analyzes your body’s data to provide you with a clear picture of what's going on inside you and to offer you science-backed recommendations for positive diet and lifestyle changes.
It’s been really helpful for me. Last summer I was feeling super sluggish on my runs. I did an InsideTracker panel — including mobile blood draw and DNA swab — and was able to get important insight as to what was going on with me and my body (TLDR; My iron and ferritin levels were low). Then, I adjusted my diet and training so that I can better go after my health & wellness goals — which included feeling good at the starting line for the 2021 New York City Marathon.

🎧 NEW PODCAST EPISODE: #HURDLEMOMENT: How to Navigate Emotional Eating & Embrace Mindfulness With Food
There are a lot of different reasons we reach for food. For sustenance, sure. But oftentimes, it has a lot to do with what's happening in life. Specifically, what's happening with our emotions. I'm bringing in Stevie Lyn Smith this week to talk about how to approach a more mindful approach with what we put into our bodies. We talk about why do we do it, how can we be more cognizant of it, when can it be a good thing (and yes, that’s possible) and other ways to add some mindfulness into what we put into our bodies.
🎧 NEW PODCAST EPISODE: 200. Kara Goucher, World-Renowned Runner & 2X Olympian
Episode. 200. WHEN did we get here?! Honored to have Kara Goucher joining Hurdle for this milestone! We kick things off in episode 200 by talking about Kara’s recent diagnosis of runner’s dystonia, what that means, and how it’s affecting her emotionally and mentally. We also bring it back to talk about how she fell in love with the sport in the first place with the help of her late grandfather and what it was like losing him to COVID during the pandemic. Plus: Her journey to self acceptance and navigating disordered eating as a college athlete, and the hard work that went into both of Olympic experiences — first as an athlete and then as a commentator for NBC. We cap things off by chatting about the recent campaign for Altra that we were both a part of, highlighting that if you have a body — regardless of size — you are an athlete. I’m so grateful for Kara’s openness, and oh-so-amped to photobomb her Boston Marathon coverage. (I’m kidding, sort of … )
