When Saying 'No' Is Actually A 'Yes'
How do you get what you want? You turn down the things you don't.

Presented by AG1:
The last time I ran the New York City Marathon was in 2021. I bonked around mile 8. I hadn’t been the best about fueling or resting in the week leading up to the race, poured my energy into a few-too-many work obligations, and by the time I got to Williamsburg — I already felt like my legs were done.
The highlight of that day was running a majority of the race next to a woman also named Emily. She was wearing her name across her chest, I was not. But! Because we have the same one, it felt like everyone was cheering for me as I made my way through three different boroughs. When we were rounding the southwest corner of Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem, I ran up beside her and said thank you. She looked at me, disillusioned, and said the same thing back. Turns out, she’s a hurdler, and had listened to the podcast preparing for the big dance. (Fun fact: We’ve since re-met, and she’s even been to the Hurdle studio.)
This year, my commitment to myself is not to do the same thing. As in, not to run out of gas early on in my 26.2-mile journey to Central Park. I’m pledging to continually ask myself the same question for the next 16 days: What do I need to show up on Sunday and get the most out of one of my favorite days of the year?
What’s best for Emily?
The answer: Owning my no. I love events! I love seeing friends! I love shakeouts! But, I can’t do it all. As much FOMO as that may induce, I’ve accepted it. I know that saying no to one thing is actually saying yes to something else. And yes to going after what feels good? That feels great.
Boundaries. A forever exercise in being honest with yourself. An exercise I’m willing to do if it means I’m stronger for it.
TELL ME: How have you showed up for yourself recently? Is it hard for you to own your no?
Keep hurdling,
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK
I’m Watching: Love Is Blind Season 7
Oh I am most certainly on the schedule where I know exactly which day new episodes come out, and then I watch them on that specific day. Period.
Gear I’m Loving: Oak + Fort Vegan Leather Trench Coat
Activewear related? Absolutely not. But! I have never been complimented more on the street than when I wore this yesterday. Hard stop. There’s nothing better than rediscovering some of your favorites when the seasons change. The jacket runs oversized, so definitely shop on down. Also, if you want to keep up with some of my favorite fashion finds — both active and everyday — I recently started a LikeToKnow. It (LTK). You can follow me here.
Prompt I’m Loving: What’s one thing you want to do before October ends?
Quote I’m Loving: “Everyone has inside of him a piece of good news. The good news is that you don’t know how great you can be! How much you can love! What you can accomplish! And what your potential is!” — Anne Frank
Thanks to AG1 — the daily foundational nutrition supplement that supports whole-body health — for supporting Hurdle.
I originally gave AG1 a try years ago because I was tired of taking so many supplements and wanted a single solution that supports my entire body and covers my nutritional bases. I wanted better gut health, a boost in energy, immune system support, and also wanted a supplement that actually tastes great. And I can tell you — it checks all of those boxes.
In a recent study, AG1 revealed that participants had the same feelings of energy, focus, and supported digestion that I’ve had using AG1. For example, after 60 days, 91% of participants in a research study noticed they needed less coffee; after 90 days, 97% of study participants felt their digestion improved.
I shake up AG1 every morning after my workout, and truly it makes me feel energized and confident knowing that I’m doing something good for my body by giving it the nutrition I deserve. That includes 75 whole food-sourced ingredients, prebiotics, probiotics, adaptogens, and superfoods.
If you want to take ownership of your health, it starts with AG1. Try AG1 and get a FREE 1-year supply of Vitamin D3/K2 AND five free AG1 travel packs with your first purchase. Go to DrinkAG1.com/Hurdle.

Similar to the sentiment you shared, I've been "chasing the feeling" I want to feel. Do I want to do X, Y, or Z? Potentially, but will I feel my best afterwards? If the answer is yes, we're doing it even if we don't feel like it. If the answer is no, it's a hell no.
I LOVE saying NO! It is definitely something I've had to work on but it's gotten me closer to what I actually want and practicing listening to my intuition rather than my FOMO.
