Why Are You So Worried About the Weather?
... the uncontrollables will get you, but only if you let them.
Welcome back to the Weekly Hurdle! This newsletter is free and will stay free thanks to sponsors and the individuals that opt-in to give. Your support is really appreciated!
Presented by Future:
I’m down in Savannah this weekend cheering on the ladies running Every Woman’s Marathon. It’s my first time down to this part of Georgia, and I’m excited both to celebrate the runners and do some exploring with one of my best friends who’s joining me here. (If you have Savannah recommendations, comment below!)
The forecast for the race on Saturday is 72 and sunny. A beautiful day, for sure, but if you’re a runner — then you know that 72 is a tad warm for a 26.2-mile cruise.
The weather’s something you have absolutely no control over — like many things in life. Other things in this category: How someone else treats you. The family you were born into. The outcome of your efforts. The past. What others think of you.
… a lot.
However, your happiness depends on accepting the things that you cannot change. You gain emotional freedom when you lessen your grip on what could be different. While most people reading this newsletter won’t be worrying about the weather down in Savannah this weekend, I’m sure there’s something weighing on your conscious that’s beyond your control.
Why isn’t he texting me back?
If only I didn’t eat that last night.
This injury is so frustrating.
You get the idea. While it’s easy to feel like a victim in uncontrollable moments and spiral a bit, I encourage you to meet yourself with where you’re at. To admit: This is how it is now, and then ask yourself — what’s next?
Because letting go of the things you can’t control? It’s a potential, radical exercise in self love. But — it requires reps.
Tell me: What’s one thing you can release that’s beyond your control?
Keep hurdling,
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK
I’m Listening To: Teddy Swims
Appropriate because he’s a Georgia native, I’ve had his essentials Apple Music album on shuffle since I got on the plane yesterday.
Gear I’m Loving: lululemon Down For It All Ear Warmer
Feels like 30 degree mornings arrived in New York out of nowhere, but here we are. Went out twice in the chill this week, and opted for this headband both times. It’s lightweight but warm, and a staple in my cold weather workout wardrobe (say that four times fast).
What I’m Reading: Funny Story by Emily Henry
Still immersed in this. Still happy to pick it up and escape reality every time I do.
Quote I’m Loving: “Some days it just flows and I feel like I’m born to do this, other days it feels like I’m trudging through hell. Every day I make the choice to show up and see what I’ve got, and to try and be better. My advice: keep showing up.” — Des Linden
Thanks to Future — a workout experience that pairs you one-on-one with your own fitness coach — for supporting Hurdle.
I receive messaged from hurdlers who are feeling lost with their workout routine every single day. I don’t want you to feel lost, but if you are — I am happy that I have this offer to give you. Enter Future, a workout app that pairs you with a coach who will map out a plan based on your goals, with workouts delivered to your phone each week.
Future, your Apple Watch (don’t worry, then loan you one for free if you don’t have!), and the app all pair seamlessly so you and your coach can track your progress, celebrate achievements, and keep you accountable every day. I have absolutely loved working with my coach Brandon, and I feel comfortable knowing he’s got my best interest in mind — planning workouts specifically for me (and my body/injury history). He’s so good at following up with me post-sweat, asking how the different movements felt, and communicating to help me get to where I want to be.

There’s no one I’d rather debrief the marathon with than the ever-inspiring Kirsten Ferguson. We're sitting down to talk through those special 26.2 miles in detail and the journey to the marathon starting line over the past 16 training weeks with her. Beyond the training cycle, we also get deep into Kirsten’s journey from a holistic view, starting with a gnarly injury and major setback that paused her marathon journey for a while.
The Peloton instructor takes us through the months on the road to recover where she truly struggled both physically and mentally and how she turned to her community for strength. We talk about the nerves that come with stepping into the unknown and how Kirsten keeps those feelings at bay as well as what she’s excited about and looking forward to post 26.2.

Disclaimer - It’s been a couple years since I’ve lived in Savannah. Peregrin is the best rooftop bar for views at sunset! If Persepolis is open, it’s a hidden gem with the best Mediterranean food in the area. For lunch you can’t go wrong with getting a sandwich from Zunzi’s! If you venture out to Richmond Hill, Marker 107 has a more local vibe and overlooks the inner coastal. I hope you enjoy your trip!
I'm not too far from Savannah. My favorite brunch places are B Matthew's and the Collins Quarter. Green truck has great burgers. Foxy loxy is a wonderful coffee spot, great spot for a treat too! Ordinary Pub always has great cocktails. Those are a few of my favorite places. Let me know if you need more specific recommendations! Enjoy savannah, it's so beautiful and it's such a great time of year to be there!
