Hey, I’m Emily Abbate.
I’m a veteran journalist with more than a decade of experience covering health and fitness for outlets like GQ, SELF, Men’s Health, Well+Good, and more.
I’m also a multi-hyphenate, for sure. These days, I lean mostly into writer/editor/podcaster/career coach (more on that in a second). I’m in my 30s and live in Brooklyn. I’m an 11-time marathoner, avid runner, cycling fan, and will try anything once (OK, probably twice). Except skydiving. I really don’t know if I’ll ever have the guts to do that.
At the very end of 2017, I started a podcast called Hurdle. Weekly, I interview everyone from CEOs to elite athletes about their highest highs and toughest moments. To date, Hurdle has more than 500 episodes, 7.5+ million downloads, and has been featured in The New York Times, Runner’s World, SHAPE, Health, Women’s Health, and more.
Thank you, genuinely, for visiting me here. Also, take a moment to check me out on Instagram or Twitter.
What can I expect from your newsletter?
Signing up ensures it gets to your inbox. Becoming a paid subscriber gives you access to the full archive, sporadic Q&As with me, and of course — the comments section. I don’t expect anyone really to do this, especially during these tough times, but — it’ll be a fun experiment.
The Weekly Hurdle comes out every Friday morning. It will include a story from me, a prompt for you, as well as weekly highlights and things I’m digging — whether that’s another podcast, an article, show, cool dead, rad human … you get the idea.
