Presented by Future:
Earlier this week on a coaching call, my client asked me how I set myself up for success week after week. I told her it’s all about this Sunday reset, a routine that I adopted about a year ago. Candidly, there are some weeks that I nail my Sunday routine, and some … not so much. But, here’s an outline of what I typically reflect on before the work week begins, whether I’m at home in Brooklyn or on the move.
Of note: This is what works for me. Maybe something similar could work for you! But, what’s most important is that whatever you choose to do before Monday morning makes you feel more at ease and ready for what comes next.
Schedule: From workouts and meetings to appointments, the first thing I do when I’m organizing on Sundays is write out my commitments — including ones that are just with myself. Since most everything appointments-wise (and work-wise) is in my Google Calendar, I transfer those appointments to my notebook to cement them in my mind so I know what’s coming up.
Then, I write out my workouts for the week from my training schedule (a separate Google spreadsheet) on the calendar inside that same notebook (linking the notebook, here). I also take a moment to look at what’s on deck for my social calendar, and when possible, make a date with a friend for one night during the week. This is something I started doing last year, and it both gives me something to look forward to and adds joy to my week.
Laundry: Self-explanatory.
Project of the week: Every Tuesday that I’m home working, I talk to my life coach. During that conversation, I choose one mindless home project to tackle — whether that be folding clothes in my dresser, cleaning out a closet, pairing socks, things like that. I choose whatever that project is on Sunday.
Work prep: Depending who I’m interviewing that week (or, perhaps what event I’m hosting) — I make sure to have outlines all set before the week begins. This way, if there’s any other podcasts I want to listen to for research purposes or articles I want to research, I have awareness of what’s on deck.
Grocery list: I do my big shop Monday mornings right after the grocery story opens after my workout. It’s much less crowded than Sunday or Monday night, and I can get in and out of Trader Joe’s within 20 minutes. The day before, I outline what I’ll need for the week. This make the shop breezier, but also helps me be more intentional about what I’m bringing home.
Tell me: How do you prep for the week? What’s made the biggest difference in how you feel heading into Monday morning?
Keep hurdling,
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK
I’m Listening To: Open’s Performance Protocol
If you click one thing in this newsletter, make it this link. Really, really loving the the guided exercises from this free pack on Open, in partnership with Strava. I’ve been doing the endurance breath before exercise every day for the past week. I feel calmer and more ready to not only tackle my workout — but my day, too. And the breakthrough run? A total vibe.
Gear I’m Loving: Goodr PopG
The good folks at Goodr sent me a few pairs of this new style, and I am SO into it. Brought the tortoise AND black frames with me on my most recent trip. They’re stylish enough to wear off the run, but also polarized, no-bounce, and no-scratch —making them perfect for any activity, too.
What I’m Reading: I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy
A weird title, sure. This book is both sad and hilarious, plus touching in so many unexpected ways (and I’m barely halfway through).
Quote I’m Loving: “Life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced.” — Soren Kierkegaard
Thanks to Future — a workout experience that pairs you one-on-one with your own fitness coach — for supporting Hurdle.
I receive messaged from hurdlers who are feeling lost with their workout routine every single day. I don’t want you to feel lost, but if you are — I am happy that I have this offer to give you. Enter Future, a workout app that pairs you with a coach who will map out a plan based on your goals, with workouts delivered to your phone each week.
Future, your Apple Watch (don’t worry, then loan you one for free if you don’t have!), and the app all pair seamlessly so you and your coach can track your progress, celebrate achievements, and keep you accountable every day. I have absolutely loved working with my coach Brandon, and I feel comfortable knowing he’s got my best interest in mind — planning workouts specifically for me (and my body/injury history). He’s so good at following up with me post-sweat, asking how the different movements felt, and communicating to help me get to where I want to be.

NEW PODCAST EPISODE🎧: 294. The Wearable Revolution: Oura CEO Tom Hale On the Perks Of Data & Why You Should Opt In
Fitbit, Apple Watch, Nike Fuelband, WHOOP, Oura Ring. With the nature of my career, I’ve been rocking some sort of wearable technology since it became a thing, over 10 years ago. I get so many messages asking why I switched up my wearable recently, and this week I sat down with Tom Hale, CEO of Oura — my current wearable of choice. I’ve been looking forward to this conversation for a long time, and we really dive into everything that is the wearable industry.
I appreciate how Tom talks about wearables very democratically throughout this conversation, not to mention his outlook on the future of the industry. We chat about Tom’s interesting journey to CEO of Oura, his perspective on why people should invest in a wearable and the importance of placement, as well as how he’s gained meaningful insight from his journey with wearing an Oura ring.

Another (weekly) Hurdle conquered. Catch you guys next week.
Love this 🙏🏻 to prep for next week, I’ve been leaning into more time blocking on my Google calendar too and sending my friends the invite. They’ll call me out if I don’t do it…Very helpful and keeps me accountable
We have 3 kids so the most necessary thing is coordinating who is getting what kid where when. We meal plan for the week which was a game changer when we started. I plan my workouts. The other thing I’ve started doing recently is choosing something fun or restful to do each day-small things like painting my nails or taking a dance break or bigger things like taking a nap or a bath. I knew I had these tools and just never thought to use them
