Presented by LMNT:
Earlier this week, I had a conversation that really impacted me. I was talking to someone about how I’m hesitant to get excited about something until it’s really locked in. I’m certainly not the first person who’s been let down or had things not work out in life — from relationships to “big” work projects. In response, I’m typically nervous to let myself feel joy surrounding new things. For instance: Go on a great first date? Well, don’t get too enthusiastic, this man could still ghost tomorrow. Have a massive contract on the line? Awesome! But, they may change their mind.
Avoidant, to say the least.
When I explained this, the other person said “it sounds like your gatekeeping your own joy.”
Wow. Did that stop me in my tracks.
It’s understandable that someone would want to avoid experiences that could cause sadness, anger, grief, or frustration. But, if those feelings could come no matter what, why not embrace the opportunity to feel happiness — even if it is short-lived?
… Embrace the butterflies that come with a “good morning” text from someone new. Squeal with a friend when that offer hits your inbox that you’ve been working on for some time. Call Mom overjoyed when you snag an open house appointment at your dream apartment, which is somehow miraculously in your price range.
You get the point. When I take a step back, it feels like a no-brainer: Embrace the good that comes in life, knowing that regardless of how long it feels that way, feeling that way is an opportunity in the first place.
You are so deserving of good things, period.
I like that. I like that a lot.
So tell me: What’s one thing in your life that you’re excited about right now? Comment below, and I’ll choose one individual to send a box of LMNT and a Hurdler hat.
Keep hurdling,
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK
I’m Listening To: How to Decenter Men and Romantic Relationships from Balanced Black Girl
My friend Les is PREACHING with this one. A great listen regardless of your relationship status.
Gear I’m Loving: Athleta Presidio Traveler Maxi Dress
I’ve been wearing this easy black dress regularly since I got it earlier this season, and it’s absolutely clutch. Loose-fitting (with pockets) and made of lightweight material, this Athleta favorite is the perfect pick for anything — whether you’re heading to the beach or running errands.
I’m Watching: Sprint on Netflix
This new Netflix release follows some of the biggest names in track and field as they geared up for the 2023 World Championships in Budapest. Watched the entire series in one night, and I loved seeing some familiar faces both on and off the track.
Prompt I’m loving: What’s one smell that brings about a happy memory?
Quote I’m Loving: “Believe you can and you’re halfway there.” — Theodore Roosevelt

Another (weekly) Hurdle conquered. Catch you guys next week.
Excited and terrified at 62 to be running my first 100 mile race at the Vermont 100 in 2 weeks!!!!!
While sad to defer from my race later this month, I’m actually excited to give myself this season to slow down. This has already mentally began to release the pressure I was putting on myself and embrace a period of mobility and strength to rebuild.
