To the hurdlers, I was where you are now a year ago and I can truly say, it was such an incredible experience. As hard as it may be just soak in each moment of this time; before the marathon, during, and after. LA was undeniably harder than I anticipated that said it also taught me the most about myself. This race will transform you in unexpected ways so have an open heart & open mind, and stick to a mantra while on course that pulls you step by step closer to the finish and in case you need one, mine has been “Yes, you can”.

You got this Hurdlers!!!

To the Hurdlers running this weekend: When things get hard (and they will), break it up. Don't think about getting to that finish line, but rather pick out something smaller, more short term. Maybe it's 'get to that next water station' or 'get to the next mile marker' and when you do, SMILE! Physically smiling will help you stay loose and remain proud of what you are accomplishing. At my last marathon, I made an effort to just get to the next mile marker and smile, which felt so much less daunting than the last 6-7 miles I had left in the race. YOU'VE GOT THIS!

Good luck to all the LA Marathon runners, especially Hurdlers!

This hurdler is running her first half marathon -- in person, from Prospect Park to Central Park! I'm anxious and excited. I'm nervous about the 13.1 miles, but as Emily said "forward is a pace". I'll be walking most of the race and I'm perfectly fine with that! I'm focused on crossing that finish line!

Did you ever think you’d be running a marathon? No really. Like maybe you were curious. You always thought it’d be cool. But did you think you’d spend weeks running so many miles? Days thinking about how to prioritize getting your run done? Moments when you’d consistently make the choice to take the first step of however many miles you had on the schedule?

And now here you are. About to toe the line to something you once admired from a far. You’re about to take the final steps of becoming a marathoner!! A story that you can tell forever. A title that you can always cherish. Be proud of yourself. You just proved that you are capable. You can do anything! Let this be your forever confidence, that anything you want or dream for, no matter how big can be yours.

That’s how marathoning has felt for me, and I am so excited for you to share in that feeling. Go get em hurdlers! Enjoy those cheers. These people lining the streets are there for you! We are all rooting for you, to see you achieve your incredible goal!!!

Emily! My memory could be incorrect - but if you are a life coach now, I think it would be inspiring / helpful to read more about advice you can share through lens of a life coach 🙂

I really love seeing what you're loving - podcasts, gear, TV, etc. You should put what you've been eating lately! Always looking for ideas, especially as someone who works out daily and needs to fuel their body. Your newsletter is part of my Friday morning routine when I wake up before the kids and I love having something to look forward to reading. Keep it up!

What I enjoy most about the weekly hurdle newsletter is the brief but thought inspiration to end the week and push me to make a change or do better. I also like the highlights at the end and have at moments purchased a book or watched a movie recommendation. I'm not a marathon runner, but definitely a runner. The podcast and newsletter keep me motivated in my weekly runs. Thanks for all you do!
