Welcome back to the Weekly Hurdle! This newsletter is free and will stay free thanks to sponsors and the individuals that opt-in to give. Your support is so really appreciated.
Presented by LMNT:
Going to keep this week’s Weekly Hurdle short and sweet:
Thank you.
Thank you to each and every single one of you that reads this week after week; I love writing, sure. It’s the reason I became a journalist in the first place. But! You’re the reason why I keep doing it. I write (and record) because I know that I have the opportunity to help and make an impact. We all do. I write because the open rate for this newsletter is consistently above 70%. Maybe you know something about newsletters, maybe you don’t. But let me tell you: Seventy percent is really high.
So with that said, the weekend before Hurdle’s 6th birthday (!!), a total podcast rebrand, and the beginning of season 16 — I have a favor to ask:
Engage.
Comment on the newsletter. Share it, too. Make sure you’re subscribed, and maybe even debate showing your support by purchasing a paid subscription. Message @hurdlepodcast on Instagram. Comment on the posts there (and share them, too). Join the Hurdlers Facebook group (which will get a facelift next week, too).
My goal has always been to help Hurdlers live healthier, happier, more motivated lives. Your engagement helps me to do that, and guides me in some of my decision-making.
Again, thank you. A thousand times, thank you. Happy holidays and happy new year, y’all. I appreciate you more than I’m all that good at articulating.
So let’s try this out. Tell me: What do you want to see from Hurdle in 2024?
Keep hurdling,
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK
I’m Listening To: Coach Bennett’s Podcast
How did I just discover this? Have I been living under a rock? I’ve had Nike’s Global Head Coach Chris Bennett on the show not once, but twice. Excited to tune in regularly for inspiration from one of my favorite folks.
I’m Watching: Designated Survivor
I am embarrassed to say how much of this I have watched over the past week. Kiefer Sutherland, can we be best friends?
Gear I’m Loving: It’s Rulu Run Ribbed Cropped Half-Zip
It’s not cheap, but it’s my most-worn running long-sleeve. In my eyes, it’s the perfect length, super cozy, and I love it’s small back zipper pocket.
Quote I’m Loving: “The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” — Socrates
Thanks to LMNT — an electrolyte drink mix with everything you need and nothing you don't — for supporting Hurdle.
Gotta give some love to LMNT, zero-sugar hydration to support your active lifestyle. I’m the saltiest sweater (cute, I know). These electrolytes are my go-to to perform better. I like them not just because they taste great (the orange salt is my favorite), but they’re also without artificial ingredients, sugar, and coloring. With LMNT, you can:
☀️ Kickstart your mornings

Another (weekly) Hurdle conquered. Catch you guys next week.
I would appreciate a conversation on how to find/discover your big and small goals and then keep moving towards them. I love being active but have a hard time making those big, exciting goals! To get out of the regular life and build something impressive. I’m excited for the rebrand. Hurdle has been so helpful and inspiring for me. Thank you so very much!!
I'd love to see some non-traditional guests. Maybe someone who doesn't have a fitness oriented career, but can give advice on fitting wellness routines into that lifestyle. I'm a marine biologist and parts of the year I work 7:30-4 and other parts of the year my schedule changes on a daily basis. Parts of the year I'm active just through working and other parts of the year I'm managing data in the office. And retaining motivation/staying accountable when my day to day is changing so frequently has been very challenging for me.
